More tonneau covers come back to us for the wrong bed length than for any other reason. Almost every one of those returns started the same way: someone read the number off a brochure, or off the badge on the tailgate, and ordered against it.
The badge tells you the trim. It does not tell you the bed.
The same truck, three different beds
A 2021 F-150 can leave the factory with a 5'6" bed, a 6'5" bed or an 8' bed. A Ram 1500 can be 5'7" or 6'4", and the RamBox option changes the usable width on top of that. Two trucks parked side by side with identical badges can need completely different covers.
That is why we ask for the measurement rather than the model. It is the only number that actually decides what fits.
How to measure it
- Close the tailgate. This matters — the cover has to seal against it closed, not open.
- Open the bed and stand at the front of it, at the bulkhead.
- Run a tape along the floor of the bed, from the inside face of the bulkhead to the inside face of the closed tailgate.
- Read it in inches. Write it down. That number, not the badge, is your bed length.
Measure inside the bed, not outside. The outside of the box includes the bodywork and will read several inches long, which is exactly the mistake that sends a cover back to us.
What to do with the number
Our beds are listed in both formats — the nominal size everyone quotes, and the actual measurement in inches. A "6'4" bed" is listed as 76.3". If your tape says 76 and a bit, that is the one. If your tape lands squarely between two listed sizes, call us on (780) 518-1000 before you order; there is usually a reason, and it is usually a trim variant we can identify from the year and model.
If we get it wrong
If you gave us the measurement and the cover still does not fit, that is our problem, not yours. Bring it back unused and in its packaging within 30 days and we will swap it or refund it. No restocking fee.
Five minutes with a tape measure saves a return, a wait, and a weekend. It is worth doing before you order, not after.
